This Sunday James and I took a helicopter and landed on the Franz Josef glacier – the only way to access the glacier! James organized a guided hike through the glacier with a guide, Jay (who was awesome and loves surfing too!), who was prepared with an ice ax and radio contact. He helped us out with boots and crampons too!
We were extremely lucky to have a cloudless blue sky crisp winters morning for our helicopter flight and glacier hike. We spent around 4 hours walking around the glacier – making our way through high ice and even under an ice cave. The experience was amazing!
