The journey to Golden Rock Base Camp from Yangon is around four-five hours depending on the traffic congestion around Yangon city. We were lucky to have a wonderful local guide transfer us from Yangon to Golden Rock and back over the course of two full days.
On the way to Base Camp we first stopped by a local market where we wandered through stalls filled with fresh fruit, veggies, meats and other odds and ends (sim cards, fuzzy pajamas, pots and pans .. you name it!). The sounds and smells were overwhelming and we fully embraced local life for thirty minutes as we made our way around the market.
We also stopped for a lovely local Burmese lunch in a palm filled garden - complete with a cold Myanmar beer and salty little peanuts too! After lunch we had a quick drive to the truck station where we boarded an open sided truck for an amazing (and amusing!) ride to the top of the mountain.
