Heading to Bagan

After fours days getting to know the city of Yangon it was time to hop onto the overnight train and head to our next destination in Myanmar - Bagan!

Around 3pm we headed to the local Yangon grocery store and stocked up on snacks before we settled into the 16 hour train ride. Our train departed Yangon station at 5pm and we were off on the adventure to Bagan.

We spent several hours watching local life go by from the train window, however as the breeze became cooler and the sunset it was time to close our windows and cuddle up for the night ahead. After waking up in the morning we were just several hours from the village of Bagan. 16 hours later ... and we made it!

Our first afternoon in Bagan was spent visiting several local villages - including a jaggery plantation, where we watched young men climb tall palm trees to tap for sugar juice. We observed ladies cooking sugar juice into a soft sugar candy, and we tried the local savory dish - fermented Tea Leaf Salad. We left on a sugar high excited for the days ahead exploring the village of Bagan.
