After several days in Kuala Lumpur it was time to escape the big city and head two hours south to Melaka - known on the tourist map for its UNESCO Chinatown.
I stayed in a little hotel located within Chinatown and spent 24 hours getting to know Melaka. I walked the main streets, tried the infamous chicken and dumplings, and even squeezed in a ride on the colorful rickshaws around the city. 24 hours was the perfect amount of time to explore Melaka as Chinatown is not too large and you have the ability to see the main sights in one day.
I loved the colors and liveliness of Chinatown. Antique and souvenir shops fill the streets and visitors wander around sampling pineapple tarts or cooling down with a cold drink over the canal.
