Marlborough Sounds …. let’s say it again Marlborough Sounds. Simply perfection! On our Easter Weekend roadtrip we spent two days in the Sounds and it was such a relaxing change from the rental car. We headed off into the sounds via a water taxi and made our way (three hours!) to Punga Cove Lodge.
Punga Cove within the Marlborough Sounds was the perfect get-away at the top of the South Island! No cell phone service, no internet … just quality time and a beautiful setting!
I love downtown Wellington! A few months back I was fortunate to head over for a work trip and ended up taking an extra day at the end of the trip to spend exploring the city on my own two feet. I took my camera and set of exploring walking around the city for the whole day!
I love the Bay of Islands – so much, so so much! I grew up a beach girl and have always had a place in my heart for the ocean so escaping the mountains and lakes and swapping them for the beaches and ocean over Christmas last year was the perfect way to spend by 10 day holiday! After spending Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Pahia, we hopped on board the Freewind and spent over 24 hours aboard a private sailboat – heavenly!
Nothing, in my mind, is better than camping out on the beach, and a beach in the Bay of Islands New Zealand at that! After our overnight sailing trip we headed on a water taxi to Urupukapuka Island where we hitched the tent and spend the afternoon walking around the little island before making cheese quesadillas and playing games in the tent during the early evening storm!
Several pit stops later (mostly including ice cream!) we made it to Cape Reinga on the most beautiful day. Cape Reinga is the Northwestern most point in all of New Zealand. After exploring the area we made it to our beachside camp site which was booked out by 12PM – talk about a popular spot!
Once we reached the top of the North Island we had to give the famous sand surfing a try at Te Paki Giant Sand Dunes. We rented boogie boards and headed up the big hill for that thrilling ride down!
We hit The Coromandel after Northland on our big summer holiday and I was blown away by the calming nature and sunny skies! The first half of our holiday was spent exploring, exploring, and doing more exploring, but for the second half we stopped to take a breath and just enjoyed sitting and swimming at the beach.
Located on the Western Coast of Northland in New Zealand lies 90 Mile Beach and it’s a a popular destination for Quad Biking in the summer sunshine!
