Sandbridge

It's always fun to have a little staycation in your own hometown - especially when someone is visiting from another destination! This summer we packed our beach bags and drove 20 miles down the beach front to Sandbridge, Virginia for a late afternoon picnic and bottle of Rose.

Even through we were less than 30 minutes from home we felt miles and miles away as it was a new location and beach adventure. We loved exploring the new area and watching the world go by from a different patch of sandy beach.

Relaxing in Ocracoke

With two full days to spend in Ocracoke we had a perfect amount of time to relax on the beach and explore the tiny town on bicycle. Each morning we biked 3 miles into the village for a cup of coffee and a tasty breakfast before riding around the side streets and stopping to see the lighthouse or browse the shops. One afternoon we were a bit spontaneous and jumped aboard an old oyster sail boat for a cruise into the ocean with a long time local and sailor.

Our afternoons were spent sitting under the bright blue umbrella as we hid from the strong North Carolina sunshine. The ocean was the perfect way to cool down ... along with a crisp and chilly IPA!

Arriving to Ocracoke

I love a little local vacation! This past weekend we hopped in the car and drove 3 hours + a 1 hour ferry ride to Ocracoke Island, one of my favorite destinations. We spend four days exploring the Outer Banks of North Carolina and camping beachside on Ocracoke - a small 16 mile long beach island off of Hatteras. We rode beach cruisers, ate local peaches and nectarines,  drank white wine, sailed through the inlet into the ocean, and lounged by our campsite with an old fashioned kerosene lantern playing card games into the night. A perfect local vacation.
